Shenmue was released by Sega for the Dreamcast in 1999, directed by Yu Suzuki, and follows Ryo Hazuki as he investigates his father's murder in 1980s Yokosuka. Much of the game involves walking between shops and strangers, asking very direct questions to gather clues about people connected to China and the man he is hunting. Clips of that methodical questioning later circulated online as shorthand for the series' famously stiff, earnest dialogue, and short excerpts like this one became reusable reaction sounds detached from the full investigation.
