Super Idol grew from the Chinese pop song Re Ai 105°C De Ni, which became a Douyin phenomenon in 2021 after Tian Yiming's smiling performance of its chorus spread across TikTok and YouTube. Rick Astley, the English singer behind 1987 hit Never Gonna Give You Up, became equally inescapable through Rickrolling, the bait-and-switch prank built around that song. This mashup brings those two separate viral histories together, pairing a chorus known for pure cheerfulness with a voice known for surprise reveals, which is why creators still use it for crossover memes.

A 28-second mashup mixing Rick Astley's voice with the Chinese Super Idol meme song, used for Rickroll jokes, idol edits and unexpected pop crossovers.
This clip mashes the bright Super Idol hook with Rick Astley's familiar pop delivery, so a cheerful Chinese meme chorus suddenly arrives in a voice linked to Rickrolling. The melody stays upbeat and bouncy, with the repeated Super Idol line driving the rhythm while the Astley-style vocal adds instant recognition. At 28 seconds it is long enough to let the joke land, build, and repeat. Viewers get two layers of internet nostalgia at once, which makes the moment feel both surprising and oddly catchy, perfect for edits that start innocent and turn into a playful bait-and-switch punchline.
