WGBH is Boston's public media station, and its ident has long appeared at the close of programmes it produces for PBS, from children's shows to documentaries. Online, the sting spread as a shorthand for earnest public television, reused in memes, remixes and video essays that play on its familiar, slightly dated broadcast tone. Because many viewers heard it throughout childhood, it still works today as instant nostalgia, even for people who cannot name the station behind it.

The WGBH Boston ident, a short electronic fanfare heard after PBS programmes produced in Boston. Creators use it for nostalgic TV outros and parody credits.
This is the WGBH Boston ident, the brief electronic sting that closes many public television programmes made by the Boston station. It opens with a clean, rising synth motif that feels formal and a little futuristic, then settles into a warm, resolved chord as the station name appears. At just under nine seconds, it is short enough to work as a punchline rather than background music. For viewers who grew up watching PBS, it instantly signals the end of a show and triggers a wave of childhood nostalgia, which is why editors drop it at the end of a video to make an ordinary moment feel like a broadcast sign-off.
