The AMBER Alert program began in the Dallas–Fort Worth area in 1996 after the abduction and murder of nine-year-old Amber Hagerman. Its name later became an acronym for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response. Alerts are distributed through broadcasters, road signs, mobile emergency systems, and other channels, so there is no single tone used in every situation. Online, alarm-style versions spread through prank clips and reaction edits because audiences quickly associate them with urgent public warnings, much like a smoke detector beep signals immediate attention.
