The Angry Video Game Nerd is the foul-mouthed retro game reviewer created and played by James Rolfe, whose videos built a large online following around exaggerated anger at broken, unfair and badly designed old games. A short, stretched-out shout like this one captures that persona in miniature, which is why it travels well beyond full reviews and turns up on meme soundboards, in reaction videos and in gaming edits. Fans recognise the voice immediately, even without context, and creators keep using it because it delivers a complete joke about frustration in about two seconds.

AVGN's stretched ass scream from Angry Video Game Nerd, a frustrated shout that drags on for a couple of seconds. It fits rage moments in gaming videos.
The clip is just over two seconds of James Rolfe as the Angry Video Game Nerd letting out one long, strained shout, with the word stretched until it almost breaks into a growl. It starts loud and angry, holds that peak for a beat, then trails off as if he has run out of breath and patience at the same time. Heard on its own it is funny because the frustration feels over the top, and in a video it works as an instant signal that something has gone badly wrong. The voice is raw, unpolished and instantly recognisable to fans of retro game reviews.
