Jimmy MacDonald created this effect for Disney's Pluto Junior, released in 1942, as part of the studio's library of expressive cartoon sounds for Pluto's movements. It later circulated through Hollywood Edge sound-effects collections, where it was catalogued among other squeak and pop creaks for film and television editors. Because the sound is short, clean and immediately cartoonish, it survived the move to online video, where creators reuse vintage foley to give simple actions a playful, hand-drawn feel without needing dialogue or music.
