The music comes from Sonic the Hedgehog, released by Sega in 1991 for the Mega Drive, and plays when Sonic remains underwater after his air timer expires. It was composed as part of Masato Nakamura's original soundtrack, designed to push players toward the surface before Sonic drowns. As the game was replayed, speedrun and shared online, the short loop became one of its most recognisable cues, instantly signalling danger even outside the game. Creators still use it because that shared memory makes a countdown feel urgent without any explanation.
