The sound comes from Law and Order, the American crime and legal drama created by Dick Wolf that premiered on NBC in 1990. Its short dun dun sting was used to mark scene changes and chapter breaks, quickly becoming the most recognisable audio cue in the long running franchise. As clips moved to YouTube, TikTok and meme edits, the sting escaped the show itself. People now drop it over any sudden confession, accusation or twist, and its courtroom gravity instantly signals that something serious has just happened.
Over dit geluid
The iconic two note dun dun sting from the Law and Order TV series, used to mark dramatic reveals, tense pauses and sudden twists in video edits.
This is the extended version of the unmistakable Law and Order transition sting, built around two deep, resonant orchestral hits. The first note lands like a verdict, the second echoes slightly longer, creating a brief pause filled with tension. It does not sound cheerful or decorative; it sounds serious, official and final. That weight is exactly why creators use it for comedy, placing the grave tone over trivial arguments, minor mistakes or everyday reveals. The contrast between the sound and the situation turns a small moment into something that feels like a courtroom turning point.
