Lilium is the opening theme of Elfen Lied, the 2004 anime series, originally sung in Latin with a sacred, choral arrangement. The music box version strips that vocal performance back to its bare melody, which helped it spread widely through anime edits, tribute videos and soundboards. Because the tune is instantly recognisable to fans yet gentle enough to fit many moods, it remains a popular choice for emotional, nostalgic and unsettling moments in fan-made videos.

The music box version of Lilium, the Elfen Lied opening, plays its haunting melody as a soft, nostalgic tune for emotional anime edits and tributes.
The clip opens with a clear, chiming music box playing the slow, mournful melody of Lilium, each note ringing softly before fading into silence. Without vocals, the familiar Latin chant becomes a delicate, almost childlike tune, both beautiful and unsettling. Its gentle tempo and sparse, bell-like tones create a feeling of innocence mixed with sadness, which is why it lands so strongly in emotional or eerie scenes. At just over eleven seconds, it is long enough to set a mood instantly without overstaying its welcome.
