The sound comes from the PlayStation 5, Sony's home console released in November 2020. It plays as part of the console's boot sequence, accompanying the animated PlayStation logo as the system starts up. Because the PS5 quickly became a familiar part of gaming setups and livestreams, the chime was widely recognised by players and began appearing in edits, memes and intros beyond the console itself. It remains popular because it instantly evokes modern gaming, a new session starting, and the polished presentation associated with PlayStation.

The PlayStation 5 startup chime from Sony's console boot sequence, a short orchestral swell used in gaming edits, intros and reaction videos.
The PlayStation 5 startup sound is the short musical flourish that plays when the console powers on, opening with soft, shimmering tones that build into a warm orchestral swell before resolving into a clean, confident finish. It feels polished and futuristic, with layered strings, gentle piano-like notes and a subtle electronic glow that suggests a new world loading rather than a machine simply switching on. For viewers, it instantly signals gaming, anticipation and a fresh start, which is why it works so well as a cue that something exciting is about to begin.
