The drum roll has been used for centuries to signal an important announcement, from military ceremonies and circus ringmasters to vaudeville stages and television game shows. A performer would roll the snare while the audience waited for a daring stunt, a name or a result. That tradition carried easily to the internet, where short rolls are copied into edits, livestreams and memes in Spanish and English searches alike. Because everyone recognises the rising tension instantly, creators still use it as a universal cue that something is about to happen.
Over dit geluid
A classic drum roll sound effect with snare drums building tension, used to announce a reveal, winner or big moment in videos and memes online.
This is a sustained drum roll played on snare and tenor drums, starting soft and growing louder and faster toward a tense peak. The rapid, rattling sticks create a feeling of anticipation, as if something important is about to be revealed. It does not resolve on its own, which leaves the listener hanging in suspense. That open-ended tension is exactly why it works so well before announcements, results and punchlines, making an ordinary moment feel like a major event waiting to happen.
