Tunak Tunak Tun was released in 1998 by Punjabi pop star Daler Mehndi and became his signature song. Its music video, reportedly the first in India made entirely with green screen, features Mehndi in four coloured outfits singing and dancing against cosmic backdrops. The clip found a second life online in the mid-2000s when YouTube users shared it for its surreal visuals and irresistible chant, turning it into a global meme. Nearly three decades later it still soundtracks dance edits, gaming montages and celebration memes worldwide.

Daler Mehndi's 1998 Punjabi pop hit, the Tunak dance anthem behind the viral meme. Creators play it for celebration edits, dance-offs and nostalgia.
This is the unmistakable chorus of Tunak Tunak Tun, Daler Mehndi's thunderous 1998 Punjabi pop anthem. A pounding dhol drum drives the beat while Mehndi's booming baritone chants the hypnotic Tunak Tunak Tun refrain over bouncing synth lines and a galloping bhangra rhythm. It sounds like a wedding dance floor exploding into celebration: relentless, joyful and impossible to sit still through. The moment it drops, viewers expect spinning dance moves, colour and chaos, and the track's sheer energy turns any scene into an instant party.
