Pikmin launched on the Nintendo GameCube in 2001 as one of the console's early mascot-driven strategy titles. After crash-landing, Captain Olimar commands the Pikmin to retrieve the thirty scattered parts of his crashed ship, the SS Dolphin, and each recovered part triggers an upgrade celebration with this fanfare. The jingle became a small icon of GameCube-era Nintendo optimism, traded among fans on soundboards and forums as shorthand for progress earned. Two decades on it still pops up in retro retrospectives, speedrun highlights and wholesome gaming memes.
