Strength first appeared as a Hidden Machine move in the original Game Boy Pokémon games, Red, Blue and Yellow, where it let a Pokémon push boulders blocking caves and other routes. The short pushing sound became tied to those boulder puzzles, which players had to solve to reach new areas and hidden items. As later Pokémon games reused the move and fans replayed the classics, the clip spread through gameplay videos, edits and soundboards as shorthand for stubborn, physical effort. It endures because it is instantly recognisable to longtime players and works even without any dialogue.
