Team Fortress 2 is Valve's class based multiplayer shooter first released in 2007, and the Spy is its French disguise and backstab specialist. Like the other mercenaries, he has hundreds of context voice lines and short vocal responses recorded for gameplay situations. This brief ehm became popular outside the game as a reaction clip in gaming videos, remixes and soundboards, because it captures the Spy's polite hesitation in a single sound. It remains widely shared by TF2 fans alongside his other lines about disguises, sappers and backstabs.

The TF2 Spy ehm sound effect is the Spy's short hesitant vocalisation from Team Fortress 2, used in memes and edits for awkward pauses and suspicious moments.
This is a very short voice clip of the Spy from Team Fortress 2 making a hesitant ehm sound, a drawn out throat clearing noise halfway between thinking and stalling. It lasts barely half a second but carries his distinctive accented delivery and dry personality. Placed on its own it instantly creates an awkward pause, as if a character has been caught, has no good answer, or is quietly judging what just happened. The humour comes from that understatement, letting a tiny vocalisation do the work of a reaction without any dialogue or explanation needed at all.
