The clip comes from a televised interview in Ghana that went viral online, where the interviewer confronts his guest with the blunt question 'Why are you gay?' in a heavy accent. The absurd seriousness of the exchange turned it into an instant reaction meme, remixed across YouTube and Vine compilations, gaming montages and shitpost edits throughout the 2010s. It belongs to the same family of blunt questioning reaction clips as You What, and it survives because the single deadpan line works as a universal comedic interruption in almost any video.
O tym dźwięku
The iconic 'Why are you gay?' meme sound from a viral Ghanaian TV interview clip. Creators drop it as a reaction in gaming videos, pranks and meme edits.
A blunt, deadpan male voice asks 'Why are you gay?' in a thick accent, delivered with the flat seriousness of a news interviewer. The clip lasts under a second, yet the abruptness of the question lands like a record scratch, instantly derailing whatever came before it. It works because the question is so personal and so out of place that it catches viewers completely off guard, flipping a normal moment into comedy. The earnest delivery makes it even funnier, since the speaker sounds genuinely curious rather than joking.
