Friday Night Funkin is an open-source rhythm game that first appeared on Newgrounds in 2020, built around rap battles between Boyfriend and a rotating cast of opponents. Clips of Boyfriend's short vocal bursts circulated widely on TikTok, YouTube and Discord as fans remixed gameplay, made Friday Night Funkin edits and turned his lines into reaction sounds. The Hey clip endures because it is instantly tied to the game's playful, musical energy and works as a quick greeting or callout in short-form videos, even for viewers who have never played the game.

The short Hey vocal from Boyfriend in Friday Night Funkin, a quick upbeat shout used in memes, edits and rhythm game clips to punctuate a moment.
This is the brief, high-pitched Hey from Boyfriend, the blue-haired protagonist of Friday Night Funkin, delivered as a single punchy vocal burst lasting well under a second. It sounds bright, confident and slightly cheeky, with a quick rise that makes it feel like a callout or a sudden greeting in the middle of a song battle. Because it is so short and instantly recognisable to fans of the game, it cuts through music and dialogue without losing its energy, landing as a playful interruption that grabs attention and signals that Boyfriend has just entered the scene or answered back.
