Chiste malo, Spanish for bad joke, is used online as an audio cue for jokes that fall flat, especially in Spanish-language memes, short videos and reaction clips. Its exact original recording is not clearly documented, so it is best understood as part of a wider internet tradition of anticlimactic punchline sounds rather than a clip from one known show or film. Similar punchline cues include the Directed by Robert B Weide sting and a drum rimshot, both of which mark an awkward ending in a different style. That shared language is why the sound still works instantly, even without context.

A short fail sting for a bad joke, with a descending brass sound that tells listeners the punchline fell flat. Common in Spanish memes and reaction clips.
The clip is a brief, deliberately anticlimactic fail sting that drops in pitch as it plays, like a tired brass instrument sighing after a joke that was never going to work. Its flat, descending notes create an instant sense of awkward silence, turning a weak punchline into the joke itself. The timing is what sells it: the sound arrives just as the laughter should, but does not, leaving the listener with a shared cringe. That contrast makes it feel playful rather than cruel, a gentle roast for the person who told the joke.
