The rhythm comes from When I'm Gone, better known as the Cups song after Anna Kendrick performed it with a plastic cup in Pitch Perfect in 2012, following earlier folk and viral versions. Online creators later remade the routine with other objects, and the gun version became a recurring joke about an American take on the trend. Short clips of the clicks building to a shot spread on meme pages and soundboards, where the familiar pattern and abrupt ending make it easy to reuse as a punchline.

The American cup song remake where the cup rhythm is played with a pistol, ending in a gunshot, used for meme edits and punchline reveals today.
This clip copies the clapping and tapping rhythm of the Cups song, but swaps the plastic cup for a handgun. Each cock, click and slide rack lands on the beat, building a tense musical pattern out of mechanical gun sounds. The joke builds because the rhythm stays cheerful and familiar while the instrument gets more absurd, then a single loud gunshot cuts it off as the punchline. It lands as a dark, unexpected twist on a wholesome performance, which is why a few seconds is enough to change the mood of a video completely.
