Ice Cube is a contestant in Battle for Dream Island, the animated object competition series that began on YouTube in 2010. As a fragile ice character, she is frequently shattered or eliminated, and her distinctive high-pitched scream became a recurring gag across episodes. Fans clipped the sound for edits, reaction videos and soundboards, where it spread beyond the show's audience as shorthand for a sudden, comic death. It remains popular because it is instantly recognisable to BFDI viewers and works even for people who only know the meme version.

Battle for Dream Island's Ice Cube scream, a high-pitched cry used whenever the icy character dies in the show, and reused in edits for deaths and sudden fails.
Ice Cube's scream is a short, sharp, high-pitched cry that cuts through a scene in an instant. It starts suddenly, rises quickly and ends almost as fast as it begins, giving it a panicked, cartoonish edge that feels both startling and funny. Because the voice is small and icy, the sound reads as exaggerated distress rather than real pain, which is why it lands so well as a punchline. Dropping it over a fall, a mistake or an unexpected elimination makes the moment feel more dramatic and absurd, turning a simple fail into something viewers instantly recognise and laugh at.
