Attributed online to Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, this laugh draws on the singer's long association with spooky pop theatre, most famously the 1982 Thriller era that blended music videos with horror imagery. Clips of the cackle spread through soundboards, YouTube edits and Halloween compilations in the 2010s, where creators reused it as a shorthand for a playful villain. It remains popular each October and in meme edits year-round because Jackson's voice is instantly recognisable and the exaggerated delivery fits both genuine horror tributes and ironic, over-the-top reveals.

Michael Jackson's evil laugh is a creepy, theatrical cackle from the King of Pop used in horror edits, Halloween videos and villain reveal memes.
This clip captures Michael Jackson letting out a deep, theatrical evil laugh, shifting from his familiar soft speaking tone into a prolonged, echoing cackle that feels both playful and menacing. The delivery is exaggerated and stage-like, with a rising intensity that makes it instantly recognisable as a villain moment rather than a genuine laugh. Listeners associate it with spooky transformations and dramatic reveals, so even a few seconds can change the mood of a scene. It works because the contrast between the pop icon and the dark, horror-style laugh creates an unsettling, memorable punchline.
