The clip features Martien Meiland, a Dutch television personality known for his outspoken and flamboyant on-screen style. The Dutch phrase mij niet bellen translates as do not call me, and its blunt, comic delivery made it easy to lift out of its original television context. Online, it has become a short reaction sound for shutting down unwanted contact, especially in Dutch-language memes, videos and group chats. Its appeal is simple: a familiar voice saying what many people wish they could say to persistent callers.
