The clip comes from Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, the real time strategy series based on Games Workshop's Warhammer 40K universe, where Space Marines are genetically enhanced super soldiers in powered armor. Their in game death lines became popular to lift for videos because they are short, clear and instantly readable as a defeat. Like the ROBLOX oof, it has moved beyond its original game into edits and memes, used whenever a character falls in an overly serious way that contrasts with the joke.

A short Warhammer 40K Space Marine death scream from Dawn of War, used for gaming edits, battle fails and dramatic character deaths in videos.
This is the pained death cry of a Space Marine as he falls in battle, a short strained shout that cuts off abruptly. The voice is deep and armored, full of shock and effort, making the moment feel heavier than its brief length suggests. It carries the grim tone of Warhammer 40K combat, where even elite super soldiers drop hard. Placed over a gameplay death or a sudden defeat, it instantly turns a simple loss into a dramatic last stand, which is why it works so well for edits, memes and tabletop inspired videos.
