Tetris began as a puzzle game created in the Soviet Union in 1984, where players rotate and stack falling blocks to clear complete lines. Its best-known melody is an arrangement of Korobeiniki, a nineteenth-century Russian folk song, which became closely linked with the game through its hugely popular handheld version in 1989. The tune spread through arcade cabinets, home consoles and later mobile releases, and it remains a cultural shorthand for puzzle gaming, concentration and mounting pressure.
