ABC2 was the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's second television channel, and this announcement was used as its nightly sign-off during the 2011 to 2014 period. It marked the point when the channel stopped its regular schedule until 7pm, while directing viewers who wanted news to ABC News 24. Although nightly sign-offs have largely disappeared as channels moved to continuous broadcasting and streaming, the clip survives online as a piece of Australian television history, shared by viewers who remember the era and by creators recreating old broadcast nights.
About this sound
ABC2's Australian television sign-off, announcing the channel returns at 7pm and pointing viewers to ABC News 24, often used in nostalgia and TV edits.
This is the closing announcement heard at the end of ABC2's broadcast day between 2011 and 2014, delivered in a calm, formal television voice over a quiet closing sequence. It tells viewers that ABC2 will return later that evening from 7, and that continuous news coverage is available on ABC News 24 in the meantime. The tone is reassuring rather than dramatic, with clear, unhurried speech that signals the channel is signing off for the night. For many Australian viewers it carries a nostalgic, late-night feeling, marking the familiar moment when regular programming stopped and the screen went quiet until morning.
