The phrase bombastic side eye circulated widely on TikTok and short form video in the early 2020s, turning an exaggerated description of a sideways glance into a repeatable meme punchline. Creators paired the audio with close ups of pets, babies, celebrities and themselves staring in disbelief, and the contrast between the formal wording and the petty expression helped it spread. The German wording bombastischer Seitenblick is a translated version shared on soundboards in German speaking communities. It remains popular because the judgement is universal and needs no setup.
About this sound
The bombastic side eye sound is a deadpan voice clip repeating the judgemental phrase, used in reaction videos for awkward, suspicious or shady moments.
This clip features a flat, unimpressed voice repeating the phrase bombastic side eye, criminal offensive side eye, stretching the words out for comic judgement. The delivery is slow and deadpan rather than shouted, which makes the insult feel even more pointed. It captures that exact moment of glancing sideways at someone who has said or done something outrageous, letting the look do all the work. Viewers instantly read it as disbelief, disgust and secondhand embarrassment rolled into one short reaction that needs no extra explanation to land.
