This cartoon villain laugh belongs to a long tradition of exaggerated animated laughter rather than one single identifiable cartoon, so its exact original recording is difficult to pin down. Versions of the trope have circulated for years on soundboards, forums and meme pages, where users share short clips for edits and reactions. This particular upload was noted as coming from a Half-Life 2 community post on Reddit, which helped it reach a wider audience. It remains popular because the sound instantly communicates scheming, mockery and playful evil without needing any dialogue.
About this sound
A classic cartoon villain laugh sound effect with a deep, mocking cackle. Perfect for evil plans, pranks and meme edits when a sneaky scheme is revealed.
This short clip captures the classic cartoon villain laugh, a theatrical, over-the-top cackle that instantly signals mischief. It starts low and sly before rising into a mocking, wheezing laugh, the kind you would expect from a scheming character twirling a moustache or unveiling a master plan. The exaggerated tone makes it feel playful rather than threatening, so it lands as comedy instead of menace. Listeners immediately recognise the trope, which is why it works so well as a punchline, a reaction to a prank, or the moment a joke takes a delightfully evil turn.
