Villa Volta opened at the Dutch theme park Efteling in 1996 as the world's first Vekoma Madhouse, a spinning-room illusion ride themed to the legend of Hugo van den Loonsche Duynen, a nobleman cursed to be haunted in his own home. The attraction begins with a preshow in which a narrator recounts the curse, and short clips of that Dutch narration circulate widely among Dutch theme park fans and on TikTok.
