The Ghast comes from Minecraft, the block-building survival game from Mojang, where it floats through the lava-filled Nether dimension and fires explosive charges at players. Its distinctive cry was designed to be heard long before the mob is seen, which made it a natural fit for gameplay videos, reaction clips and horror edits shared on YouTube and TikTok. Like the FNAF jumpscare scream, it is now used far beyond Minecraft itself as a shorthand for sudden dread, a ghostly warning, or a comically over-the-top scare.
About this sound
The eerie, high-pitched scream of a Ghast from Minecraft, a ghostly Nether mob whose cry warns players of danger and works perfectly for spooky jumpscare edits.
This is the unmistakable wailing cry of the Ghast, the floating ghost-like mob that drifts through Minecraft's Nether. It sounds like a long, eerie, childlike scream stretched thin and echoing, somewhere between a wail and a shriek, instantly recognisable even to players who have never seen the mob up close. Because the Ghast attacks from a distance with explosive fireballs, hearing that cry creates instant tension and dread, a warning that something dangerous is nearby but out of sight. In edits it lands as a sudden spooky shock, funny precisely because it is both terrifying and oddly plaintive.
