Lirik, whose real name is Saqib Zahid, is one of Twitch's longest-running variety streamers, and clips of his exaggerated vocal impressions have circulated as memes for years. This sub-second growl imitates a Wookiee, the roaring species from Star Wars, and soundboard users nicknamed it the alpha Wookie mating call because of its deep, animal-like rumble. Like other short reaction sounds, it spread through stream highlights, Discord servers and meme edits rather than any official release, and it endures as a quick burst of feral hype.
About this sound
Lirik's guttural Wookiee-style growl, known online as the alpha mating call. Twitch creators use it as a funny hype reaction for wins, raids and edits.
This is a less-than-a-second burst of Lirik, the popular Twitch streamer, doing his best Wookiee impression. It opens with a low, chesty rumble that climbs into a rough, gargling roar, equal parts Chewbacca growl and over-the-top streamer yell. Because it is so short and guttural, it lands like an animal call rather than speech, which is why fans dubbed it the alpha Wookie mating call. Dropped into a clip, it instantly reads as feral hype, turning a normal win or entrance into something primal, loud and deliberately ridiculous.
