The M16 is an American military rifle introduced in the 1960s and widely known from the Vietnam War, films and first person shooter games. Its distinctive firing sound became a familiar stock effect in online videos as gaming clips and soundboards spread the short burst across forums and social media. Because players and viewers recognise the weapon instantly, the clip remains popular for parodies, edits and reaction videos where a realistic gun sound would be too long or too serious for the joke.
About this sound
Sharp M16 rifle firing sound effect with a rapid automatic burst, commonly used in gaming montages, prank videos and action memes for impact.
This is the unmistakable crack of an M16 rifle firing a short, rapid burst. The sound is dry, metallic and aggressive, with each shot snapping sharply before a brief echo fades out. It lasts only a couple of seconds, which makes the impact immediate and easy to recognise even without any visuals. Viewers instantly associate it with combat, gaming and action scenes, so creators use it to add sudden tension, shock or exaggerated firepower to an otherwise ordinary moment. The intensity is part of the joke when it is dropped into harmless situations.
