M4R takes its name from the .m4r file extension Apple uses for iPhone ringtones, a variant of the M4A audio format designed for short clips under forty seconds. Because ringtones needed to be brief and instantly recognisable, many phone sounds, alerts and meme clips were shared in this format and later converted for soundboards. This five second example follows that same pattern, circulating as a compact, phone ready cue rather than a full track, and it remains popular for call jokes, notification edits and quick reaction posts.
