Major Payne is a 1995 American comedy film starring Damon Wayans as Major Benson Winifred Payne, a tough Marine drill instructor assigned to train a group of unruly cadets. The film's humour comes from Payne's rigid military discipline clashing with everyday school life, and that contrast has kept short lines and moments from the movie in circulation among comedy fans. On soundboards and in short-form edits, this ice cream clip is reused as a quick, recognisable punchline, especially when a creator wants a stern voice to undercut a soft or silly moment.
About this sound
A clip from Major Payne featuring the drill instructor's ice cream moment, used by creators for funny reactions, meme edits and punchlines in videos.
This short clip captures Major Payne in a lighter moment, trading his usual drill-sergeant bark for a scene built around ice cream. His voice is loud, direct and unmistakably military, which makes the ordinary subject feel absurd and funny. The delivery is fast and punchy, with a sharp comic timing that lands even without seeing the film. Listeners instantly recognise the contrast between a hardened instructor and a simple treat, and that clash is what gives the sound its humour. It works as a quick reaction, a surprise punchline or a way to underline a moment of unexpected softness.
