The sound circulates online as part of the banana cat meme, where a cat in a banana costume became a shorthand for exaggerated sadness and longing in short-form video. Creators pair the repeated miau with reaction clips, failed attempts, and lonely or rejected characters, because the sound reads instantly even without words. Its short length makes it easy to loop, layer under edits, and reuse across platforms, which has helped it stay in rotation long after individual banana cat posts faded from feeds.
About this sound
A sad cat meow repeated as miau, from the banana cat meme, used in short online videos for disappointment, longing, or comic sadness and sympathy.
The clip is a short, looping-style burst of plaintive cat meowing, delivered as a repeated miau that rises and falls like a cat asking for attention. Its tone is soft but insistent, with a slightly mournful edge that makes it sound less like a happy pet and more like a small creature pleading, sulking, or quietly giving up. Heard on its own, it is instantly recognisable as a cat sound, yet the repetition gives it a musical, almost chant-like rhythm. That mix of cuteness and melodrama is what makes viewers smile, because the sound turns an ordinary meow into an exaggerated emotional reaction.
