Murder on My Mind is a song by American rapper YNW Melly, first released in 2017 and later popularised through streaming and social media clips. Its slow, confessional delivery and memorable hook made short excerpts easy to reuse, and the track became a staple sound for TikTok edits, YouTube memes and gaming montages. Creators often borrow it not for its literal story, but for its mood: calm on the surface, dark underneath. That contrast is why the snippet still works years later as shorthand for a scheming or dramatic moment.
About this sound
The dark, catchy hook from YNW Melly's Murder on My Mind, often used in memes and edits for dramatic reveals, plot twists, and ironic villain moments.
The clip captures the instantly recognisable opening hook of Murder on My Mind, delivered in a low, laid-back rap flow over a sparse, moody trap beat. The vocal is calm and almost conversational, which makes the dark lyric land with a strange, deadpan humour rather than sounding threatening. A soft piano-like melody and restrained drums keep the focus on the voice, giving the snippet a cinematic, late-night feel. When it drops in a video, it instantly signals that something mischievous, dramatic or unexpectedly sinister is about to happen, turning an ordinary moment into a punchline.
