Owen Wilson built the wow into a signature across films like Zoolander, Wedding Crashers and the Cars series, where he voices Lightning McQueen. Fans began isolating the line in compilation videos in the 2010s, counting dozens of wows across his movies, and the single best takes spread as a standalone reaction clip on soundboards and in meme edits. Its gentle, sincere tone made it more versatile than a shouted reaction, so it survived beyond the compilation trend and became a standard shorthand for amazed disbelief online.
About this sound
Owen Wilson's iconic wow sound effect, delivered in his soft drawn-out voice, used in memes and edits to react to impressive or surprising moments.
Owen Wilson's wow is a short voice clip of the actor saying the single word wow in his unmistakable laid-back delivery. The vowel stretches out soft and breathy, starting surprised and ending almost impressed, which makes it instantly recognisable even out of context. At just over a second and a half it lands like a punchline, turning an ordinary reveal into something that feels unexpectedly amazing. Viewers hear it and immediately get the joke, whether the moment on screen is genuinely impressive or hilariously underwhelming, which is why editors love dropping it in without any setup.
