Resident Evil began as Capcom's survival horror series on the original PlayStation in 1996, with Resident Evil 2 following in 1998 and expanding the Raccoon City story. Its inventory screen became a familiar part of play, as managing limited slots for weapons, herbs and puzzle items was central to survival. Clips of its menu sounds later circulated on soundboards and in fan edits detached from full gameplay. The effect remains popular because it carries strong nostalgia for PS1 horror while working as a clean, recognisable interface cue for any video.
