About this sound

Scorpion screams Ahhhhh while set on fire in Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, a short panicked yell used for burning, failing and chaotic reaction edits.

This is a short, frantic scream from Scorpion in Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, stretched into a drawn-out Ahhhhh as the character is engulfed in fire. The yell starts high and desperate, then wavers as if he cannot get away from the flames, which makes the pain feel both dramatic and absurdly over the top. Because Scorpion is usually the one using fire on everyone else, hearing him panic in it flips the moment into comedy. Played over gameplay or a reaction clip, it instantly signals total disaster in a loud, cartoonish way.

Pro tip

Drop the scream right as flames first touch the character, not before, and let its full three seconds play out over the burn animation. Pair it with visible fire or an explosion, and avoid looping it, which quickly kills the panic.

How people use it

Add to gameplay when your character catches fire unexpectedly.
Use over cooking fails where food suddenly bursts into flames.
Drop into edits when someone panics during a boss fight.
Play as a reaction when a plan backfires instantly.

More information

The clip comes from Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, the 2005 action-adventure spin-off of the Mortal Kombat fighting series, where Scorpion appears as a fiery undead ninja opponent. His association with hellfire makes a clip of him screaming while burning especially shareable among fans. Extracted as a standalone three-second sound, it moved from gameplay footage onto soundboards and into meme edits, where gamers reuse it whenever a character, stream moment or real-life attempt goes up in flames and spirals out of control.
