The Super Mario Bros Super Show premiered in syndication in 1989, produced by DiC Entertainment as a live action and animated series based on the Nintendo games. Wrestler Captain Lou Albano played Mario and Danny Wells played Luigi, performing this rap in costume for the opening. Only 52 episodes aired, but home video, reruns and early YouTube reuploads kept the theme alive. Its Do the Mario dance became a lasting meme, sampled and parodied by fans who grew up with the show.
About this sound
Opening rap from The Super Mario Bros Super Show performed by Mario and Luigi to introduce each episode. Used for nostalgic gaming edits and retro memes.
This is the full opening rap from The Super Mario Bros Super Show, performed in live action by Mario and Luigi over a bouncy late 80s hip hop beat. Mario introduces their plumbing business in Brooklyn, explains how they were pulled into the Mushroom Kingdom, and sets up the adventure in rhymed verses. It ends with the famous Do the Mario dance instruction, delivered with total earnestness. The cheesy delivery, dated slang and swinging arm choreography make it instantly charming, turning any modern edit nostalgic and deliberately uncool in the best way.
