About this sound

A sharp classic telephone ring sound effect with a traditional double ring. Creators use it for incoming call scenes, pranks, skits and notification gags.

This is a clean recording of a classic telephone ring, the familiar two-tone trill that instantly signals an incoming call. It lasts just a few seconds, with a bright, insistent bell-like tone that cuts through dialogue and background music. The rhythm feels urgent and slightly old-fashioned, evoking landline phones rather than modern smartphones. When it plays, viewers immediately expect someone to pick up, creating anticipation or comic interruption. It works as a punchline cue, a scene transition, or a way to fake a call, because the sound is universally recognized and needs no explanation.

Pro tip

Drop the ring right before a cut to the 'caller' for comic timing, and duck background music by 6 dB underneath it. Use a single ring for a quick gag; let it ring three times only if someone will answer. Avoid layering it over dialogue.

How people use it

Faking an incoming call in a prank video.
Interrupting a skit with a sudden phone gag.
Signaling a call before a funny conversation starts.
Adding a retro office vibe to a transition scene.

More information

The telephone ring is one of the most reused video sound effects online, a staple of skits, memes and short-form edits rather than a clip from a specific show or film. Its old-fashioned double-ring tone reads instantly as 'phone call' even to viewers who grew up with smartphones. Editors favor it because it creates a clear cue for interruptions, fake conversations and reaction setups. Like a discord call alert, it signals that someone is about to speak, which is why it still appears in prank compilations and comedy sketches years after landlines faded.
