The Itchy and Scratchy Show is the fictional cartoon-within-a-cartoon from The Simpsons, presented as a segment on The Krusty the Clown Show and watched by Bart and Lisa. Itchy, a mouse, and Scratchy, a cat, star in short, extremely violent slapstick episodes that parody classic cat-and-mouse cartoons. The cheerful theme has become shorthand online for cartoon chaos, and creators reuse it to frame memes, edits and reaction clips where playful music makes exaggerated conflict feel funny rather than serious.
About this sound
The theme tune from The Itchy and Scratchy Show, the cartoon inside The Simpsons, used to introduce chaotic slapstick fights and cartoon parody clips.
This nine-second clip captures the opening theme of The Itchy and Scratchy Show, the hyper-violent mouse-and-cat cartoon watched by Bart and Lisa on The Simpsons. It sounds like a bright, old-fashioned cartoon fanfare, cheerful and bouncy on the surface, which makes the mayhem that usually follows feel even more absurd. Hearing those first notes instantly signals that something silly and over-the-top is about to happen, priming viewers to laugh at slapstick violence they would never take seriously in real life. It works as a quick nostalgic cue for fans of the show.
