The ree kid became a familiar scream meme online thanks to short clips of kids shouting ree at maximum volume during games and VR sessions. This version pairs that scream with a loud, off key rendition of the opening line from Childish Gambino's This Is America, giving editors two recognisable hooks in just over a second. It spread through meme compilations, gaming edits and soundboards where brief, ear piercing reactions are shared and reused. Its brevity and instant recognisability keep it in rotation for chaotic punchlines.
About this sound
A kid in VR loudly sings This Is America before letting out a high pitched ree scream, a short meme clip used for chaotic and funny reaction edits.
This is a very short clip of a young kid in a VR headset belting out the line this is America and immediately following it with an exaggerated ree scream. The singing is off key, loud and completely earnest, which makes the sudden screech feel even more abrupt and ridiculous. It lasts just over a second, so the joke lands instantly with no build up. Viewers hear confidence, chaos and a classic meme scream packed into one burst, making it perfect for punctuating a moment that has gone completely over the top.
