About this sound

The We Smell Pennies sound is a shouted meme clip ending in a long scream, used for random humor, jumpscare edits and absurd reaction moments online.

This clip starts with someone loudly declaring we smell pennies in an excited, almost triumphant voice, then immediately dissolves into a drawn out, distorted scream. The phrase itself makes no logical sense, which is exactly why it lands as comedy. The sudden shift from a confident announcement to pure chaos gives the audio a startling, unhinged energy. Listeners are left confused for a beat before the absurdity hits, making it perfect for moments that are meant to feel random, loud and completely out of context.

Pro tip

Cut to the shout with no buildup and let the scream ring out over a freeze frame or zoom in. Pair it with a close up of coins or a character sniffing the air, and avoid lowering the volume or the punchline loses its shock.

How people use it

Drop it after someone finds loose change unexpectedly.
Use it for random jumpscare edits in gaming videos.
Play it when a character acts completely unhinged.
Add it to absurd meme compilations for chaos.

More information

The exact origin of the We Smell Pennies clip is unclear, but it spread as a short soundboard and meme audio rather than from a widely credited film or show. Its appeal comes from the nonsense phrase paired with the exaggerated scream, which turned it into a reusable scream meme for edits and reaction posts. Short clips like this circulate quickly on social platforms because they need no context to work, and this one remains popular for random humor, loud punchlines and deliberately confusing moments in videos.
