Charles de Gaulle, often shortened to CDG, is the main international airport serving Paris, France, and like most large airports it uses a pre-announcement tone to quiet a terminal and signal that information follows. Frequent travellers through Paris associate the chime with departures, connections and boarding groups, which is why it spread online as a recognisable travel cue rather than as music. It works much like a ding sound effect, but with a specific place attached, and creators now borrow it for any mock announcement, travel edit or airport roleplay.
