El Chavo del Ocho is a Mexican sitcom created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños that followed the residents of a working-class neighbourhood, especially the orphan boy El Chavo. First broadcast in the 1970s, it became one of the most widely watched Spanish-language comedies in Latin America, with reruns keeping its characters and music familiar to new generations. Short clips of its theme and incidental music now circulate widely on soundboards and in memes, where a few seconds are enough to trigger recognition and nostalgia.
