Argon was one of the built-in notification tones supplied with Android 4.4 KitKat, released in 2013, when Google refreshed the system sounds for its mobile operating system. As Android phones became widespread, the tone became familiar from everyday messages, emails and app alerts. Later, short clips of classic Android sounds began circulating on soundboards and in meme edits, where Argon stood out for its clean, gentle character. It remains useful today as a recognisable retro Android alert, especially for creators evoking early smartphone culture.

The Argon notification tone from Android 4.4 KitKat, a short bright alert for messages and app alerts, often used for retro phone jokes in videos.
Argon is one of the default notification sounds that shipped with Android 4.4 KitKat, and this clip captures its brief, clean alert in full. It opens with a soft, rounded tone and rises slightly on a second note, giving it a light, friendly feel rather than a harsh buzz or beep. At just over a second long, it is instantly recognisable to anyone who used an Android phone in the mid-2010s, and it still carries that familiar, slightly nostalgic feeling of a message arriving. In edits it works as a quick, unobtrusive ping that signals attention without interrupting the scene.
