Battlefield 4 is a first-person shooter developed by DICE and released by Electronic Arts in 2013, the follow-up to Battlefield 3. Its main theme reworks the series' long-running Battlefield theme into a harsher electronic style, with glitchy pulses and distorted tones matching the game's near-future warfare setting. Short stings cut from that theme spread across YouTube edits, gaming montages and soundboards, where players recognised the hit instantly even without footage. It remains a shorthand for a big military reveal or a serious moment about to start.
