The clip comes from Dead by Daylight, the asymmetric multiplayer horror game, and is attributed to developer Mathieu Cote, whose brief laugh has been clipped and shared as a standalone soundboard sound. Because the game has a large streaming and editing community, short developer reactions like this travel quickly between clips, montages and reaction videos. It remains in use because it is instantly tied to the game for fans, yet works as a general dry laugh for awkward wins, ironic praise and moments when a plan falls apart.

A short Dead by Daylight laugh clip of developer Mathieu Cote chuckling, used in gaming edits and reaction videos to mock a failed escape or killer win.
This is a brief, dry chuckle from Dead by Daylight developer Mathieu Cote, captured in a short two-and-a-half-second clip that sounds more amused than triumphant. The laugh is light, slightly awkward and instantly recognisable to players who follow the game's development updates, which is why it lands so well out of context. Dropped over a failed skill check, a botched escape or a killer camping a hook, it turns frustration into a joke without needing any explanation. The tone is self-aware rather than mocking, so viewers hear it as the game itself laughing along with them.
