The phrase red is sus comes from Among Us, the social deduction game released in 2018 that exploded in popularity in 2020, where sus became slang for suspicious behaviour. Players used it in emergency meetings to accuse crewmates, especially the red character, often with very little evidence. Clips of players angrily defending those accusations spread on TikTok and YouTube as a scream meme format, and this rage version is still used to mock overconfident accusations, public lobbies and anyone acting guilty in multiplayer games.
