This sting comes from the Mickey Mouse cartoon 'Goofy's Grandma', part of the 2013 Mickey Mouse shorts series, which aired on July 11, 2014. The shorts leaned on classic cartoon scoring, and this bass donk is a textbook comedy sting in that style. Clips of it were later uploaded to soundboards by meme creators who collect cartoon punchline effects, and from there it spread into TikToks, shorts and reaction edits as a generic fail marker, in the same family of cartoon stings as Cartoon Chase. It survives because the sound is instantly readable even without the cartoon context.

A comedic bass string donk sting from the Mickey Mouse cartoon Goofy's Grandma (2014). Creators drop it to punctuate fails, awkward pauses and punchlines.
The Bass String Donk is a short, plucky low-string sting that lands with a rubbery 'donk' and a quick wobble before fading out. It sounds like a cartoon double bass being slapped for comic emphasis: warm and boomy at the attack, then slightly pitch-bendy and silly as it dies. The effect on a viewer is instant laughter insurance, turning a small stumble or blank stare into an obvious joke. It is especially good at selling physical comedy, because the springy decay mirrors the feeling of something flopping, dropping or deflating on screen.
